We like you, May. Spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner. Bring on the picnics, weddings, festivals, and barbecues! This month's Favorite Things was created by yours truly so get ready for a smorgasbord of my current favorites.
1. Love Does by Bob Goff
After seeing so many Instagrams of the cover of this book, I had to see what the craze was all about and read it for myself. Simply put, I love Bob! This book is filled with stories, many quite hilarious, with applications and realizations he’s had in his life. It’s a very inspiring read, filled with the Lord’s truth and about a billion great quotes you can hold onto. One of my favorites is: “I used to be afraid of failing at something that really mattered to me, but now I'm more afraid of succeeding at things that don't matter.”
2. Mediterranean Necklace by Market Colors
Statement necklaces are the best. They can make one of my boring t-shirts look fancy and complete. One of my favorite pieces from our newest collection is the Mediterranean Necklace. The sea foam shade is soft enough to be paired with other accessories yet still bold enough to be worn alone. Another idea—Your mom might love it for Mother’s Day! And that means you could borrow it from her. It’s a win-win!
3. Dean’s Beans
When I was developing the idea for Market Colors, I spent a lot of time in coffee shops and, naturally, developed a love for coffee. In our office now, we have a Keurig that makes single-cup servings so we crank through those bad boys all day. Our team likes to try all different types of flavors and not worry about having to make a whole pot. However, your standard K-cups can’t be recycled. Dean’s Beans is completely organic, fair-trade, and kosher. This means their coffee is actually doing a lot of good in the world and that makes us all very happy. Way to go, Dean’s Beans!
I’m constantly trying new, healthy snacks to eat throughout the workday. One of my recent favorites is the delicious Larabar! The main component in these bars is dates. They also contain other fruits, nuts, and spices. They come in a bunch of awesome flavors like banana bread, chocolate chip brownie, and blueberry muffin. My favorite is probably apple pie! They’re available at most grocery stores, often in the health and nutrition aisle.
5. Mama’s Sauce
Have you ever heard of a Gourmet Printer? Think letterpress and screen-printing coming to life. Most of their work is spot printing. Our team oohs and ahs over their posts online all the time. While they do all different types of huge projects like wedding invitations, posters, and anything custom, they create the most incredible business cards you’ve ever seen. Business cards are a way to leave an impression with someone you may only meet for a few moments. Be smart and check them out before you purchase your next set of business cards, your shower or wedding invitations, or other custom print pieces.
6. Huff Post Live
I love browsing through the segments Huff Post produces each day. They’re nearly always about things or people I’m interested in. It’s a great way for me to stay current on different areas of the news with quick segments. Many of their pieces discuss current events, religion, entertainment, and a variety of topics such as this one about self-image on your wedding day. Also, do you see that adorable British host? That’s my future sister-in-law, Caroline! Family or not, following Huff Post is a great way to hear opinions on topics all across the board.
The experts tell us we need to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. That is A LOT of water. Personally, I can only take so much of the plain taste of water. With all the water flavor enhancers out there, only few of them are actually good for you. Everly has created low-cost powders that are made with 100% natural ingredients. Not only do they make my water taste awesome, but I can drink it knowing that I’m actually only putting helpful ingredients into my body. Everly is available online and in many Whole Foods stores.
