"A drink in my hand, my snow up against the burning sand. Prob'ly getting gorgeously tanned in summer!" Ohhhhh, Frozen. Will you ever grow old? Either way, I'm so pumped that summer is here. Honestly, Florida feels the same pretty much year around. However, there's just something in the air that makes me feel more relaxed and ready for barbecues and beach trips. Here are some of my favorite things from June!
1. Light Society
For those of you who thrive on All Sons & Daughters or Gungor, you will LOVE this album by Light Society. A friend of mine told me she listened to it the whole time she was pregnant and whenever they play it for their daughter now, it calms her down! Aside from having apparent magical qualities for infants, this album really is beautifully honest and uplifting. My personal favorite song is "Still."
2. The Giving Keys
I absolutely love this company! The Giving Keys locates old keys and engraves them with words chosen by the customer. The Giving Keys employs those experiencing homeless to engrave the keys. This creates a unique way to support the impoverished and combat homelessness. We love this great organization and admire their business model. You can request custom engravings on your keys for just $5 more or select one of their standard words such as believe, courage, hope, or many others. In their online store, you will also find rings, bracelets, phone cases, and more!
3. Jean Vest
My favorite outfit pieces are always capable of layering. Florida is so weird in a sense that it is always HOT outside so people blast the AC constantly. I also hate covering up my cute dresses with cardigans. Enter in my summer lifesaver: the jean vest. This one is from Target and it’s one of my favorites I’ve seen this season.
4. Alter Eco Chocolate
What’s better than chocolate? Fair trade chocolate! Alter Eco creates this delicacy in Peru and Ecuador. Their chocolate comes in some pretty wonderful flavors such as Dark Salted Brown Butter, Dark Velvet Truffles, and Dark Coconut Toffee. Alter Eco also sells quinoa, rice, and sugar. You can order online or visit one of the many stores that carry this treat, including many Whole Foods stores.
5. Tovolo Popsicle Molds
How many of your earliest memories involve sticky popsicle fingers? This childhood favorite of mine has recently walked back into my life. There are many great molds out there but this Tovolo one is a favorite of mine as it looks like an ice cream cone. Here is a great list of some delicious popsicles geared toward kids. After all, we're all kids when we're eating a gummy bear popsicle.
6. Geneva Watch
Secret’s out! My favorite watch that you see in just about all Market Colors Instagrams was just $15 on Amazon. I’ve had it for about a month and it’s held up so great! I was a bit skeptical because it’s such a low price compared to most leather watches but I’ve been very pleased with it.
7. Market Colors – Slate Knot Necklace
For a neutrals girl like me, a statement necklace is kind of ideal. This new Market Colors creation lets me look fancy while I’m really just in black jeans and a grey top. It also creates a great contrast with my other floral tops and sundresses. Our wonderfully talented craftsmen in Uganda make this piece and I couldn’t be happier with it.
