Is there a better time of year than Christmastime? What kind of a question is that?! Of course not! From the music, decorations, devotions, traditions, and many, many holiday orders we ship, we love the wonderful month of December. It's important to our team that we remember the reason we celebrate this wonderful day - the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ! Enjoy our list of favorites as you immerse yourself in this wonderful time of year.
When I was in middle school I got it in my head that I wanted to make homemade eggnog. My mom was currently pregnant with my little brother and said I could make it with the condition that I found a recipe with cooked eggs so she could have some too. After scouring the internet, I came across this gem which has been my go-to ever since. Yes, it’s a bit of work but the end result is completely worth it!
2. Christmas Light Looking
One of my favorite things to do during the holiday season is to go Christmas light looking. From as far back as I can remember, it has been a tradition in my family to go on Christmas Eve, after church. We always bundle up, roll the windows down and turn the Christmas music up in the car while rolling through some neighborhoods that are known for their lights. I held onto this tradition when I moved away from home and do it with a few friends earlier in December here in Orlando. I love having the opportunity to share traditions like this and make new memories.
I have a confession. I actually get more excited about what is in my stocking on Christmas morning than opening other gifts. When I came across these vintage seed sack stockings on Etsy, I knew they were perfect. Besides being adorably rustic and wonderfully up-cycled, they are also the perfect size for all those great stocking stuffers.
I stumbled across this soap completely by accident – and in the middle of summer, no less – but I fell in love with it immediately and knew it would make my list of gifts to give during the holidays. I now understand why these were great gifts to give baby Jesus! This soap smells amazing and doubles as perfume for the day too.
We love it when what seems like a simple find turns out to mean so much more. During the Christmas season, tree decorating is a necessity. But why can't your trimmings make your tree sparkle AND help impact someone's life? We came across an ornament that does just that. This handmade ornament benefits a family in the process of adopting their little girl from the Congo. It’s a beautiful reminder of what this season is really about.
Nativities have always been part of the Christmas décor in my home growing up. As a kid, I loved setting out the pieces and rearranging them every day (sometimes more than once). This sweet nativity set was handmade by a group of refuge women in Nairobi, Kenya and each is unique. If you’d like one in time for Christmas, please order by December 9th!
Call your friends, make some hot cocoa, pop some popcorn and gather round for some Christmas movies! I am all about holiday movies, no matter how cheesy or how old. Everyone has their favorite, myself included (The Grinch…of course). We found a list of 20 Christmas movies that are pretty swell. So, if you don't know which movie to choose, take a look at this list because we're sure it will help you decide.
8. Decorating Christmas Cookies
Baking is one of my favorite things to do. Combine that with my favorite holiday and I'm sold. Decorating cookies shaped like wreaths, reindeer or snowflakes are a blast, not to mention a tasty finished product. Bring friends and family together for a cookie decorating party and get creative this holiday season!
The beginning of the month marks the official countdown to Christmas. Advent calendars have long been a tradition for many households during the holidays. We found an adorable and delicious advent calendar from none other than Starbucks. Countdowns always help build anticipation for Christmas, so why not start yours today?
*These seem to have already sold out online but check your local Starbucks store for one as we've seen them at multiple locations!
10. Gift Wrapping
When it comes to gift-giving, one thing I get most excited for is the wrapping! Taking the time to add an extra bow or make a handwritten note makes exchanging gifts unique and special. This season, think outside the box (no pun intended) and add your own personal twist while wrapping presents.
The Masaai Blessing Ball ornament is a beautiful addition to your Christmas decorations. We love that each has its own uniqueness because they are individually handmade in Kenya. When you receive your Blessing Ball, you will find a special Masaai blessing with your packaging.
Stay in touch with family and friends near and far with some hand-stitched Holiday Cards from Market Colors. There's something so personal about a handwritten card. Why not write it on something that's handmade? We sell them in a set of five and seal them with love!
